Helen Sutton Karmgard, 88, of West Fargo, ND (formerly of Hunter, ND) died Tuesday, June 21, 2011, at Sheyenne Crossings Care Center, West Fargo, ND.

Helen Jeanette was born on March 30, 1923, in Pekin, North Dakota, to Olaf and Louise (Enstad) Bjorlie. She graduated from Pekin High School and went on to North Dakota State University, Fargo, where she earned a B.S. Degree in Home Economics, Education and Foods. She was a member of Phi Upsilon Omicron, as well as the National Honorary Home Economics Sorority.

She taught school at Hunter, Grandin and the consolidated schools of Dakota (Hunter, Arthur and Erie) for 21 years.

On September 25, 1947, she married, Hunter resident, Lewis Sutton. Lewis passed away in 1971. On May 30, 1987, she married, Fargo resident, Virgil Karmgard. Virgil passed away in 2001.

Helen was a member of First Lutheran Church in Hunter, American Legion Auxiliary, Order of the Eastern Star and Olivet Lutheran Church in Fargo.

Helen enjoyed travel and some of her favorite destinations were: Norway, England, Ireland, Scotland, Alaska, Denmark, Switzerland and Hawaii. She enjoyed spending summers at the cottage on Lake Melissa near Detroit Lakes, MN.

She lived in Hunter from 1945-1982, then retired to Fargo. She lived in Fargo from 1982-2011. In April 2011, she became a resident of Sheyenne Crossings Care Center in West Fargo, ND.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; son, Bill Sutton; her brother, Orel Bjorlie; and sister-in-law, Myrtle Bjorlie.

She is survived by her daughter, Linda (Tim) Folk, Brainerd, MN; son, Bob (Claudette) Sutton, Fargo, ND; son, Dr. Ross (Joanie) Sutton, Shoreview, MN; seven grandchildren, Jon and Kari Folk; Braden Sutton; Sam, Sierra, Isabella and Joe Sutton; one great-grandchild, Marrin; and a brother, Kermit (Ruth), Zumbrota, MN.

Funeral Service: Friday, June 24, 2011, at 11:00 AM, at Olivet Lutheran Church, Fargo.

Visitation: One hour prior to the service at the church.

Burial: 2:00 PM, Hunter Cemetery, Hunter, ND.
