Elias was the son of Ai Ransom Fassett Sr. and Betsy (Crandall) Fassett, husband of Charlotte (Record) Fassett. He was born in Oregon Township, Lucas County, Ohio.

On Elias [Salathiel] Fassett --- Elias was a farmer. He lived with his parents on the old Fassett homestead [Oregon Twp] His first wife died young and he then married Charlotte (Lottie) Record, a school teacher. After a severe hailstorm destroyed his crops, he worked as a telephone lineman. His work then took him to Charleston, MO, where he later brought his family and parents.

(The above information was furnished by Rita Fassett Miller, granddaughter of Ai Ransom Fassett, Jr.)

By William Small: When Elias moved to Charleston (MO) in April 1889 he took with him Lillian Alma, (10 Oct 1881 to 1 Feb 1953. Also Herbert Ai (30 Sep 1883 to 7 Oct 1977. Also Terressa (13 Sep 1885 to 27 Nov 1961). She was 4 years old.

More from Bill Small:

"Elias Salathiel moved to Charleston and continued working in the telephone business that he started in while in Toledo. He helped found the first telephone exchange in Mississippi Co, MO. He must have had a good
business sense because at one time he owned a store in Charleston and owned a lot of property in the town of Charleston. There is a Fassett Street named for him in the northwest part of town. Most of this property was lost by the family during the depression."

From The History of Oregon and Jerusalem, by Josephine Fassett, 1961, p. 244:

"Elias S. Fassett was born in Oregon Township August 19, 1854. He attended DeBolt district school. He married Elizabeth French. Shortly after their daughter, Lillian, was born, Mrs. Fassett died. Elias lived with his parents. After a period of time he married Lottie Record, a school teacher. He continued to live with his parents and take care of their farm. His son, Herbert, was born September 30, 1883, and on September 13, 1885, a daughter, Terressa arrived. Both children were born in Oregon Township on the old homestead.

After a hail storm destroyed the crops, Mr. Fassett decided to go to work as a lineman. His work took him to Charleston, Missouri where he took his parents and family."

Elias Salathiel Fassett should not be confused with another Elias Fassett who resided in East Toledo, Ohio, at approximately the same time. This other Elias Fassett was born 15 January 1827, Cambridge, Lamoille, VT, came to Lucas County with his father, John, and died in 1906, Toledo, Lucas, Ohio. He is buried in Willow Cemetery in Oregon, Ohio. It is unlikely, from my research, that these two Fassett lines are related to one another.
