Mr. & Mrs. John Carman of Custer both passed away within the space of 16 hours last week at the Breckinridge Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Carman died at 6 p.m., December 16 [1959] and Mr. Carman followed her in death at 10 p.m. December 17 [1959]. A double funeral was held Saturday, December 19 at the Methodist Church in Custer. Burial was in the Custer Cemetery. The Rev. Wilbur Johnson officiated at the funeral. Funeral directors were from the Dowell Funeral Home in Hardinsburg. Pallbearers were John D., Ernest F., Verna P. & Boyce C. Carman, Chester Hire and John Kiper. Mr. Carman was the son of the late Henry & Hester Lucas Carman. Mrs. Carman was the daughter of the late Boone & Mattie Ramsey West. They had three sons; Estel & Ernest Carman of Louisville and C.C. Carman of Custer; three daughters, Mrs. Kermit Flowers, Custer; Mrs. L.L. Smith, Hardinsburg; and Mrs. Loyal Hudson of Irvington.
