A.L. Seaman, 82, Passes Away.
Another of Scio's pleasant natured senior citizens has passed from the local scene this week-Al Seaman, 82, died early Sunday, Sept. 9, 1973 in a Salem hospital where he had been in special care about one week. Al Seaman and his loving wife, Alta, have been daily visitors downtown, as health permitted, and especially endeared themselves to many by generous bouquets of beautiful, huge gladioli as their production in their own floral garden permitted. Jovial nature, and friendly to everyone, they are made prier presence appreciated, anywhere on the street, in the market, or at a social or public occasion. Al's widow still remains among us to continue to be appreciated. The Seaman's have resided in or near Scio since 1939. Being a farmer, they owned and resided on a farm two miles northwest of Scio for many years until selling the farm and locating in Scio. They were chiefly turkey raisers for a considerable time. He had also worked in logging a shorter period. He was a member of Scio Christian Church, and the IOOF Lodge. He was born March 14, 1891 in Osgood, Missouri. He was married July 1, 1914 in Chillicothe, Missouri to Alta Evan Havens. They lived at Rupert, Idaho from 1923 to 1930 and then to Aberdeen, Wash., until moving to Scio, Oregon in 1939. Al (Alonzo L.) Seaman's father was William Seaman an explorer in the Northwest Territory in the 1840s. His family history also dates to persons who came to this country on the mayflower in the 1600s. Services were held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Scio Christian Church with Rev. James alley officiating. Burial was in Miller Cemetery northwest of Scio. Huston Funeral Home of Lebanon was in charge of arrangements. Surviving besides the widow, Alta, of Scio are four sons, Ernie E, and Alfred A. both of Dallas, Ore., Larry of Tacoma, Wash., and Raymond J. of Seattle, Wash.; also 13 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
