Once a successful planter in Mississippi, Skinker was a well-spoken successful attorney in St. Louis. However, it was his eloquently poetic letter proposing the establishment of a great new park for St. Louis that paved the way for Forest Park (site of the 1904 World's Fair). The people of the day said that the letter contained more poetry than Byron, Moore & Milton ever dreamed of.
