The soul of our beloved rejoices
and is happy among the angels.
Her remains alone rest here beneath this tablet.

She did all things well, by the inspiration of her Heavenly Father. All who knew her do love, and cherish her memory.
His will, not ours, be done.

New York Times
Tuesday 9th June 1903

Constance Gracie, the young daughter of Archibald Gracie of New York, was killed in an elevator accident at the Hôtel de la Trémoïlle last evening.

Consul General Gowdy investigated the matter and found that Miss Gracie attempted to enter a descending freight elevator and was crushed and killed between it and the shaft. Her body will be embalmed and taken to New York

Mr. Gracie is a real estate dealer, and shares an office at 130 Broadway with Cuthbert Scranton. Accompanied by Mrs. Gracie and their daughter, he left here on May 1 for a four months' trip in Europe.

The most profound sympathy is felt in society circles here for Mr. and Mrs. Gracie. The latter was Miss Constance Schack and a sister of Mrs. Temple Merritt. Mr. Gracie comes from the old Knickerbocker family of that name. He is a cousin of the Duers, the Gracie Kings, Mrs. John King Van Rensselaer, and Mrs Frederic Bronson, and is a member of the Union Club.

Mr. and Mrs. Gracie were married about ten years ago, and until recently lived at Staten Island.
