Mrs. Bateman was born Jan. 11, 1886 at Fort Douglas, Utah, the daughter of Edward F. and Amy Brunham Balmforth.
She was educated in Salt Lake City, Utah, schools, and came with the family to Idaho in 1902. On Sept. 20, 1905, she was married to Clarence Bateman at Blackfoot. They made their first home at Lincoln, where her husband was employed by the Utah-Idaho Sugar Factory for nearly 50 years. He died Dept. 21, 1961, the day following their 56th wedding anniversery.
Mrs. Bateman was a seamstress, making many items for church welfare, and during World War I knitted sweaters for members of the armed service. She was an active member of the LDS Church, serving in the Relief Society for many years.
Surviving are three sons, Edward C. Bateman of Spanard, Alaska, Charles W. Bateman and Linden F. Bateman, both of Idaho Falls; four daughters, Mrs. Carl (Wanda) Westerberg and Mrs. J. Wayne (JoAnn) Garrer, both of Idaho Falls; Mrs. Lynn (Lela) Ward, Pocatello and Mrs. Philip (Betty) Sheridan of Anaheim, Calif.; two step-brothers, W. D. Kelley of Woodville and H. L. Kelly of Shelley. Nineteen grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren also survive. She was preceded in death by two brothers and two daughters, Mrs. Virgie Arave and Florence Bateman.
Funeral service will be at 2 pm Wednesday at the Wood Chapel of the Pines, with Bishop David R. Hunter of the 16th LDS Ward officiating. The family will meet friends Tuesday from 7:30 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 1 pm to time of service at the Wood Chapel of the Pines. Interment will be at Rose Hill Cemetery.
