Charles L. Brookhart was born August 25, 1839, in Athens County, Ohio and moved to Missouri in 1852.
He enlisted in Company K 10th Regiment of Cavalry, Missouri Volunteers, on the 25th day of September, 1862, and served as Private until March 1, 1863, when he was appointed and served as Corporal until he was discharged on July 21, 1865.
Was married to Jane Roberts, June 10, 1868, to which union ten children were born - six having died before the father.
The mother and wife died December 18, 1889. Mr. Brookhart died October 26, 1909. He leaves three sons and one daughter living.
Funeral services were held at the M. E. Church in Arbela, October 27, then he was laid to rest in the Hickory Grove Cemetery.
He was a loving father and like by all who knew him.
