Alfred had an affair before he married Florence Haskell. He had a daughter whose name was Freda. Freda was raised by her grandparents. It is believed that Freda was an adult before she found out who her father was. They did meet each other and spent time together.

Alfred enlisted in 1914 in the CEF, for WWI, per his Attestions papers but had already served in the Military for 10 1/2 years prior. Not sure where or in what military group at that time.
Alfred was a prisoner, in Germany, during WWI. He was listed as missing in action, as of 30 April 1915. He was a Sargeant Major #9151 (Regimental Number) in the 3rd Canadians Infantry Battalion . The service number belonging to the Queen's Own Rifles We do not know if he escaped or was freed at the end of war. (Ref: 150, Accession 1992-93/166, Box 9621-21.)
In Sep 1938 he went to England and later WW2 broke out. He established himself, in England, when he left Canada and found work with the Ministry of Transportation and their offices were located in Bedford England. Then WW2 broke out and he had to stay there and that is where he died. He married Alice Gertrude Noakes 1916-2004 in Bedford. She was created and her ashes are at the Norse Road Cemetery, Bedford, England.
