CLAXTON, Ga. - Henry G. Shuman of Hagan, a former member of the Evans County Board of Education and also a former Hagan city councilman, died of cancer M onday at Evans Memorial Hospital here. He was 63. The funeral was scheduled for today at Claxton First Baptist Church with burial at Brewton Cemetery in Hagan. Mr. Shuman served on the county Board of Education in 1964-65 and on the City Council from 1968 to 1972. He operated a local livestock market, farm equipment company and oil distributing company. His son, Harry A. Shuman of Atlanta, is coordinator of the Atlanta Chamber of Commerce's efforts to lure the 1988 national political conventions to Atlanta.
Henry Gessman Shuman was born July 14, 1923, in Evans County. He attended Riverside Military Academy and the University of Georgia, and served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He belonged to the Masons, Shriners, Canoochee Hunting Club, Claxton Hunting Club, Alpha Tau Omega and Claxton First Baptist Church. Surviving in addition are his wife, Mrs. Allie "Teeny" Henry Shuman; three other sons, Henry G. Shuman of Hagan, Randy R. Shuman of Savannah and Jimmy R. Shuman of Rome; two daughters, Miss Becky Shuman of Dublin and Mrs. Patsy Wells of Hagan; his mother, Mrs. Eunice DeLoach Shuman of Hagan; two sisters, Mrs. Margie Allen and Miss Betty Shuman, both of Statesboro; and a grandchild.
