Enlisting in the service from his native New York in October 1940, Edward went overseas in July 1942. He was a member of Company A, 18th Infantry, First Division, that participated in the first invasion of North Africa in November 1942. Acquilin's body was one of 2,520 American war dead due to arrive in New York City on May 14, 1943 from Africa aboard the funeral ship, Barney Kirschbaum.

Survived by father Joseph, sister Mary, brother Charles, all residing in Tucson, and brother Victor in New York.
