RANGER -- Wayne E. Simpson, 81, welder for Lone Star Gas Co. from 1935-72, died Thursday in a local nursing home. Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in Ranger First Baptist Church with the Rev. Jerry Speer officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, directed by Edwards Funeral Home. Mr. Simpson was born in Thurber, where he graduated from high school, and served with the U.S. Army Air Corps in the India-Burma and China theaters during World War II. He married Vivian Crenshaw in 1949 in San Antonio. He moved to Ranger in 1949 and was a member of Ranger Masonic Lodge 738 and First Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, of Ranger; one son, Lt. Col. Larry Simpson of Fort Worth; two grandchildren; one nephew and several cousins.
