Bill M. Harris, 78, Abilene, died Sunday, April 14, 2002, at an Enterprise nursing home.

He was born June 24, 1923, in Junction City, to Samuel Robert and Ethel Rose McCluskey Harris. He attended grade schools in Geary and Dickinson counties and graduated from Dickinson County Community High School in Chapman in 1942. He was a farmer before he retired and had worked for many years as a crop insurance adjuster.

He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Merchant Marines.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Abilene and a former member and deacon of New Basel United Church of Christ near Abilene.

He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and Dickinson County Cattlemen's Association and had served on the Turkey Creek Watershed board of directors. He was a past president of the Dickinson County Sheep Producers.

He married Ella Lorene Mourer on July 18, 1944, in Kansas City. They lived near Abilene for many years. She survives. A grandson, Shaylon Troy Voran, preceded him in death.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church in Abilene. Burial will be in Abilene Cemetery. Relatives and friends will meet from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Danner Funeral Home in Abilene.

Memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church in Abilene, the Alzheimer's Disease and Related Disorders Association or Enterprise Estates Nursing Center in Enterprise.
