James Arthur Austin was the son of William Jackson "Jack" Austin and Susan "Susie" (Lewis) Austin.

He was the Grandson of Robert Lewis, Jr. and Mary "Polly" (Whittenburg) Lewis, and the G-Grandson of Robert Lewis & Sarah (Cagle) Lewis of "Lewis Mountain" in Marshall Co., AL.

James Arthur Austin married Nellie May Lee, daughter of Anderson Porter Lee and Addie Coleman Lee. She was born Jan 04, 1903 in Red River Co., TX and died of typhoid fever on Oct 25, 1939 in Clarksville, Red River Co., TX.

Their children were:

(1)James Anderson Austin. He was born July 30, 1925 in Clarksville, Red River Co., TX and died of typhoid fever on Oct 05, 1939 in Clarksville, Red River Co., TX. He is also buried in White Rock Cemetery.

He was 11 years, 2 months, and 5 days old when the typhoid fever killed him. His Mother, Nellie May (Lee) Austin, took care of him through his illness, and she also came down with typhoid fever and passed away 20 days later.

(2)Shirley Lee Austin: Living

It was very tragic that James Arthur Austin lost his wife and his son in the same month. When their son came down with typhoid fever, James took their little daughter, Shirley Lee Austin with him to his brothers home and stayed. He and their daughter, Shirley Lee, were still living with his brother, Samuel H. Austin and his family in April of 1940 and are listed in their household of the 1940 Census taken April 17, 1940.
