Mrs. Estella Edwards Burgess, 83, wife of Edward L. Burgess, and a well known resident of the Mt. Crawford community, died at 2 p.m. Tuesday at her home following an extended illness.

A daughter of the late Robert and Mollie Gladden Edwards, she was born March18, 1878 near the Mt. Crawford community.

In 1897, she married Mr. Burgess who survives as do five children, Mrs. Vernie Evans of Charlottesville; Claybourne J. Burgess, of Detroit; and Marvin E. Burgess, Mrs. Thelma Berry, and Mrs. Geneva B. Johnson, all of Harrisonburg; 23 grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Daisy Saufley, of Alexandria.

Mrs. Burgess was a member of the Bridgewater Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be held at 3:330 p.m. Thursday from the chapel of the Lindsey Harrisonburg Funeral Home with her pastor, the Rev. Jeddie DeFries in charge of the services. Burial will be in the Mt. Crawford Cemetery.

The body is at the funeral home where friends are asked to meet Thursday at 3:15. The members of the family will meet at her late home at Mt. Crawford at 3 p.m. Thursday for a brief service prior to leaving for the funeral chapel.

Pallbearers will be grandsons and Harold Smiley.

Mr. and Mrs. Burgess celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary this year.
