Jack was a long time radio amateur, first licensed in 1919 and had the call W1JFQ.

Achievements include over 10 patents including development of LORAN and OMEGA aids to navigation and phonographic reproduction and pickup design. He received a Presidential Certificate of Merit in 1948 for his work on LORAN during WWII. His development of the LORAN navigation system saved thousands of lives in World War Two. Bombers used this system to navigate over Europe in all weather find their target and then safely find their way home.
