SOUTH BEND - Emmagene Ullery Walz, 97, formerly of South Bend, passed away June 9, 2011, in St. Petersburg General Hospital in Florida. Born July 13, 1913, she was the daughter of the late Elmer W. and Bessie (Platz) Ullery.

On August 31, 1935, in South Bend, Emmagene married J. Woodrow Walz, who preceded her in death on December 13, 2002. Survivors include two daughters, Carole L. (Dr. James S.) Prawat of Richmond, IN, and Linda M. Kring of Dubuque, IA; and son, J.W. "Jay" (Carmen) Walz of Pinellas Park, FL. She is survived by 10 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Emmagene was a longtime member of Grace United Methodist Church and was past president of the James Monroe PTA. She was also a member of the first graduating class of Riley High School in 1931 and one of Riley's first cheerleaders.

Visitation will be held on Friday, June 24, 2011, in the McGann Hay, Forest G. Hay Chapel, 435 S. Ironwood Drive at Jefferson from 3-6 p.m. Funeral services will be held in Grace United Methodist Church on Saturday, June 25, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow at Southlawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Goodwill Industries of Michiana, 1805 West Western Ave., South Bend, IN 46628; or to the charity of the donor's choice.
