Veteran of the Civil War, entering from Oconto county WI. June 1 1864 as Major of the 39 WI. Inf.
At the age of 22 years he was elected to the 16th session of the State Legislature of 1863 from Oconto county. He represented the 30th Senatorial District in the State Senate, comprising the counties of Dunn and Chippewa for 4 years starting with the session in 1885.
From 1868 to 1884 he was the president of the Board of Education of this city, and for 3 years was president of Wisconsin editorial Association.
United in marriage with Miss Flora Beall Outhwaite at Taycheedah, Fond du Lac county, Sept. 18 1861. 3 children now survive him along with his wife, Frances C. William C, and Elizabeth B.
