Mrs. Shelia Russell Bennett of Calhoun died Thursday morning, Aug. 10, 2000 in a Rome hospital.
She was born in Gordon County and was a teacher and social worker, having retired from the Cobb County Schools. She received her teaching degree from Peabody College in Nashville, Tennessee, and dual master's degrees from the University of Georgia. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma and a member of Sugar Valley United Methodist Church, where she was active in the North Georgia United Methodist Conference.
Survivors include her husband, Willie (Bill) Bennett of Calhoun; a daughter, Melanie Gravitt of Calhoun; a grandson, Koty Gravitt of Calhoun; a nephew, Sam Russell of Atlanta; and two brothers, J. W. and Raiford Russell, both of Calhoun.
Funeral was Saturday, Aug. 12 at 11 a.m. from Sugar Valley United Methodist Church, with Dr. David McKenzie officiating. Burial was in Chandler Cemetery.
The family will accept flowers, or donations may be made to the local chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma scholarship fund.
