Deceased Name: Lingelbach, Daniel Dee

Lingelbach, Daniel Dee, 85, electrical engineering professor, died March 7. Services 10:30 a.m. Monday, First United Methodist Church (Strode, Stillwater).
*******************
Son of George Daniel and Nora Bee (Corbet) Lingelbach; husband of Ruby E (Dickey) Lingelbach-Crow.

Daniel (Dan) Lingelbach was born on October 4, 1925 to George D. and Nora B. (Corbet) Lingelbach in Wilkinsburg, Pennsylvania. He died March 7, 2011 in Stillwater Medical Center. The family will greet friends on Sunday, March 13, 2011 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. His funeral service will be held on March 14 at 10:30 AM in the First United Methodist Church. Interment will be in the FUMC Columbarium and Memorial Garden under direction of the Strode Funeral Home.

His father had a salesman's job, so his early years were in Topeka, Salina and Minneapolis, Kansas. His junior high and three high school years were in Manhattan, Kansas. During WWII his dad had a job with the Federal Power Commission, so the family moved to Washington, D.C. where he graduated from Anacostia High School in 1943. After graduation he enlisted in the US Navy to get into the V-12 Officer Training Program.

He was assigned to the University of Virginia Navy V-12 Unit, and enrolled in Electrical Engineering. By graduation, he was wearing glasses which were not acceptable for officers, so he was assigned to the Bureau of Naval Personnel in Arlington, Virginia and discharged May 26, 1946. He then enrolled at Kansas State University as a senior in Electrical Engineering and received his BS in 1947, then his MS in 1948. He taught 7 years at the University of Arkansas.

He married Ruby Dickey in August of 1949, and they were together for over 61 years. They had three children, Jean Marie, Dick and David. In 1955, the family moved to Stillwater, Oklahoma where he taught Electrical Engineering full time while working on his PhD, graduating in 1960.

Dan directed the Electromagnetic Relay Conferences for the E.E. Department from 1963 to 1992. He directed the Frontiers of Power Conference from 1968 to 1987. OSU had the two semesters for nine months with the three summer months devoted to working for companies to gain industrial exposure. Some of these experiences were with Boeing Aircraft, NASA, and Dow Chemical. Some summers were spent at six-week classes at other universities. Two of these were at Logan, Utah and Rolla, Missouri. He retired in 1987 after 32 years at OSU, but spent half time in Engineering Extension until 1992. He also visited companies in the summers.

Dan and Ruby were a team in the rock hounding hobby. They were members of Stillwater Mineral and Gem Society, in which he served as V.P., President and Chairman of several committees. In the Oklahoma State Counsel of Gem and Mineral Societies he served as secretary for a number of years. They traveled to all corners of the USA attending gem and mineral shows for the Rocky Mountain Gem and Mineral Society (RMFMS) and the American Federation of Mineralogical Societies (AFMS). He was Vice President, then President, and Chairman of the Finance Committee of the RMFMS. For the AFMS he was also Vice President, then President. Field trips were held after the shows for these federations. The biggest benefits of these travels were the people that they met. Dan's primary interest was in florescent minerals. He won the Trophy for Short Wave Minerals at the Wichita Show in 2004.

He was Treasurer for his Investment Club; a President of the Golden K Kiwanis. For this organization he helped deliver Mobile Meals for a number of years. He also helped give demonstrations of historical toys, etc. at the Sheerer Museum.

For many years Dan was the sole operator of the sound system for the United Methodist Church. In recent years, other people have volunteered to help do this.

Dan was a knowledgeable person who knew how to do things and fix things, so he was frequently asked questions on what should be done. A great interest in his life was "the Cabin" in Eastern Oklahoma surrounded by woods, a large spring and a clear creek running past a bluff. The family built the original cabin from the foundations up, doing all the work except installing the large upper windows. The children, grandchildren and their friends liked it so much that the shell of a new log "grandparent's cabin" was built. Getting the interior finished was the last thing he did before his illness stopped him just before Thanksgiving 2010.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife, Ruby; daughter, Jean Marie, of Wichita, Kansas; son, Dickey L. Lingelbach, and wife, Becky Jon, of Fayetteville, Arkansas; son, David Lingelbach, of Stillwater, Oklahoma; brother, Clyde Lee Lingelbach, and wife, Dorothea, of Kansas City, Missouri; grandson, Aaron T. Lingelbach, and wife, Dawn; great-granddaughter, Zoe; grandson, Randall Wiggins, and wife, Courtney; great-granddaughters, Avery and Brynlee Faith Wiggins; granddaughter, Christi, and husband, Alan; and great-grandson, Connor Galbraith, of New York City.

Memorial contributions can be made to First United Methodist Church, 400 W. 7th, Stillwater, OK 74074; or Dodrill's Museum, 123 S. Cleaveland Ave., Cushing, OK 74023.
