City Soldier 1 of 3 Dead in Pocono Crash

Pvt. W. M. Bugaj Killed, Pvt. Joseph Winnicki Critically Hurt

Scranton. Pa., May 31 (AP) Three soldiers were killed and a fourth injured critically early today in a collision of their automobile and a milk truck at Daleville, in the Pocono Mountain section.
The dead are Corp. John E. Nowajczyk, Binghamton, stationed at Camp Dix, N. J., Pvt. William M. Bugaj. 303 Tioga Street, Syracuse, stationed at Camp Dix., Pvt. Adolph J. Caratone, Norwalk, Conn., stationed at the Tobyhanna military reservation.
Critically injured was Pvt. Joseph Winnicki, 31, of 414 Otisco Street, Syracuse, stationed at Camp Dix. He was admitted to Hahnemann Hospital suffering from a fractured right leg and probable internal injuries.
State Patrolman John H. Rights said the soldiers' automobile crashed into the rear of the milk truck, loaded with empty cans. The milk truck driver, identified by Rights as Ronald Field. R. D. No. 1, Lake Ariel, was not hurt.

William S. Bugaj was killed in the accident near Tobyhanna and Joseph Winnicki, injured in the crash, had left Syracuse yesterday en route back to Fort Dix. N. J. after being home on weekend passes.
Both had entered the Army together last February.
Bugaj, 23, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Bugaj of 303 Tioga Street was a steelworker before he entered the Army. Besides his parents he is survived by a brother, Edward, also in the Army and stationed at Fort Breckinridge, Ky., and two sisters, Helen and Genevieve.

Pvt. William Bugaj Funeral Conducted

Funeral services for Pvt. William Bugaj, who was killed Sunday in an automobile accident at Tobyhanna, Pa., were conducted at 9:30 A. M. Saturday at the home, 303 Tioga Street, and at 10 A. M. in Sacred Heart Church by the Rev. Joseph Kowalczyk, assisted by the Rev. Peter Koleczek and the Rev. Casimir Piejda.
Bearers were Walter Piela, John Pietrowski, Alexander Blazak, Andrew Latocha. Joseph Radomski and Joseph Kurzawinski, all members of Post 14. P.L.A.V. and Com. Frank Nowicki.
A firing squad from the Army Air Base also attended. Burial was in the soldiers plot in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
