John Cecil Burgett Sr., 91, of 1330 White Drive, Lewisburg, passed away on Wednesday, June 15, 2011, at Sterling House in Columbia.
Mr. Burgett was a native of Marshall County and the son of the late John David Cecil Burgett and Elma D. Crabtree Burgett. He was married to the late Annabel Bills for 54 years and was a veteran of WWII, serving in the United States Army Air Corps. Mr. Burgett was a member of the American Legion, 32nd Degree Mason and Al Menah Shrine. He served on the Board of Directors of the former Peoples & Union Bank (First Tennessee Bank), was a member of Church Street Church of Christ and owned Burgett Chrysler-Plymouth of Lewisburg for 37 years.

In addition to his parents and wife, a son John Cecil Burgett Jr., two brothers, Sloan and Phillip Burgett, and one sister, Hazel Chapman, preceded him in death.

He is survived by his wife, Frances Whittemore Burgett of Lewisburg; one daughter, Brenda (Gary) Wells of Lewisburg; and one brother, Douglas (Rebecca) Burgett of Columbia. Also surviving are four grandsons, John Cecil "Jay" Burgett III (Stacye), Jeffrey (Jill) Burgett, Brad (Farrah) Burgett, and Gregory (Elizabeth) Wells; and three granddaughters, Leanne Wells (Alison), Lynnae Blackwell, and Lannie (Jeff) LaBelle. Also surviving are 21 great-grandchildren, Lindsey, Lauren, Lexi and Rob Franks; Gage Blackwell; Bren Woods; Trevor and Taylor Burrow; Jordan and Lily Burgett; Kyleigh and Jackson Burgett; Jacey and Julianna Burgett; Grayson and Carter-Page Wells; Jaylyn Wells; Tyler and Erin LaBelle; and Gretchen and Tyler Smith; one great-great-grandchild, Laiken Sweeney; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Private graveside services for Mr. Burgett, with Military Honors, were conducted Thursday, June 16, at Lone Oak Cemetery with Thomas B. Sumners officiating.

Active pallbearers were Jay, Jeff, and Brad Burgett, Greg Wells, Brendan Woods, Trevor Burrow, Rob Franks, and Bill Marsh.

Honorary pallbearers were Bob Bills, Stanley Nix, Blaine Burgett, Bob Binkley, James "Buddy" Jones, and former members of the Downtown Sunday School Bible Class.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are encouraged to American Cancer Society, Marshall County Chapter, Attn: Ms. Susie Boatright, 2382 Lynnville Highway, Cornersville, TN 37047 or the Alzheimer's Association, 201 West Lincoln Street, Tullahoma, TN 37388.
