The following information was provided by a previous manager of this memorial (likely, Joyce Tinsley) or by another Find a Grave contributor:

Joseph Delk was born in Buncombe County, North Carolina about 1805. In the 1850 Scott County, Tennessee census his age is 42, and his wife, Mary was age 46, and they married in 1826. In the 1860 Pulaski County, Kentucky census his age is 56, and his wife, Mary was age 63. In both census he is listed as born Tennessee, but his father did not leave NC until 1807.

Pulaski County, Kentucky: At a called term of the Pulaski County court held at the courthouse in the town of Somerset on this 10th day of July 1862 present the Hon. Hiram Gregg, Judge. This day a writing from Mary Delk widow & relict of Joseph Delk deceased waiving her right to administer on the estate of her deceased husband and requesting that letter of administration be granted to Solomon Weddle on the said estate thereof the said Solomon Weddle took oaths required by law and that together with DW Rupell their security executed bond to the court according to law. ----writing----was proven by the oath of Fredrick Delk & as to the signature of the other----witness on the motion of Solomon Weddle Adm of the estate of Joseph Delk deceased ordered that SW Cain, GE Muse & DW Rupell ---- any of them after being first sworn be appointed to inventory & appraise the personal estate & slaves if any of which the said Joseph Delk deceased died ----& possessed and that they return the said to the clerk of this court. Ordered that court adjourn. H. Gregg

A true and just inventory and appraisment of all the personal estate of Joseph Delk deceased which was produced to us by S Weddle and R Rupell his adm.--------We do certify that the foregoing inventory contains all the personal estate of Joseph Delk deceased which hath come to our hands the July 23 day 1862 DW Rupell, SW Cain, Galen Muse

Porch Clerk of the County Court for the County aforesaid do certify that the foregoing account of sale of the personal property of Joseph Delk deceased was on the 16th February 1863 filed in my office for record and that it has been duly recorded. He was not married to his wife's sister.
He was acquitted of begetting an illegitimate child with his wife's sister. From the documents I have seen it does not mention the sister's name. Joseph, his wife Mary, and their children moved to Kentucky after the trial. His wife was Mary in the census and Mary when he died.

Gravesite Details

No marker or documents found yet to verify where he is buried. In the 1860 census he lived next door to his son Ewel & Ewel is buried at New Hope Cemetery.
