Our loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Eugene Warriner Porter, native son of San Juan County, UT, peacefully passed away on June 15, 2011 due to natural causes incident to age at the home of his daughter, Cynthia, and son-in-law, Gary, in Glendale, AZ.

Funeral Services will be held in the LaVerkin Stake Center on Friday, June 24, 2011 at 2:30 p.m.
Interment will be in the LaVerkin City Cemetery, LaVerkin, Utah.

Eugene Warriner Porter was born at home to Hyrum Edward and Lucy (Carroll) Porter on June 12, 1927 in Blanding, Utah, where he spent the happy years of his childhood.

Following graduation from high school, Gene followed his brothers into the military and enlisted in the Navy on September 12, 1945. He was stationed in San Francisco, CA, and honorably discharged August 6, 1946. Following his return home, Gene attended Utah State University until his father's request brought him home to farm.

In 1953, Gene returned to school, where he drove bus for the City of Provo and worked as a retail driver for Hyland Dairy, while attending Brigham Young University.

Once again accepting the invitation to return to his beloved San Juan and run wholesale routes for Hyland Dairy, he moved his family back to Blanding and lived for a number of years before leaving for the UCLA School of Dentistry and California.

In California a new opportunity and direction presented itself, and Gene and Anne began again by investing one of their greatest strengths as a couple - plain hard work and plenty of creativity - and built Barry Gail Kennels into a thriving business. Success invited new adventure and the chance to go into business with Sam and April Lee.

After purchasing the "Dude Ranch," which they renamed Blue Mountain Guest Ranch, Eugene brought his family back to San Juan County, where he also worked for the BLM and Utah Department of Employment Security in Blanding.

Following his divorce, Gene married Louise Sessions and was sealed to his eternal companion on March 19, 1983 in the Provo, Utah, Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

Moving to Price, Utah, Gene continued his employment with Utah Department of Work Forces as Program Supervisor, where he was accorded the distinction of being one of two employees chosen from the state of Utah to present a paper during a Montana conference on non-traditional jobs for women.

Wherever he worked or whatever he did, his work ethic, integrity, and ability to be a "team player" brought him the respect, trust, and friendship of peers and superiors alike. A natural mediator endowed with wisdom, Gene was often sought for advice.

Throughout his life, Gene was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He accepted as an honor every invitation to serve his God that came to him, but felt greatest joy in friendships formed through his service as a faithful home teacher.

Eugene is survived by his sister, Lorna (Dean) Corder, Soldotna, AK; his children: Alan Porter, Mesa, AZ, Cynthia (Gary) Buer, Glendale, AZ; DeeAnne Christopherson, Lancaster, CA. Scott (Garla) Porter, Herriman, UT, Sanford (Deanna) Porter, Hurricane, UT, Matthew (Lenay) Porter, Spanish Fork, UT, as well as thirty-seven grandchildren and seventy-two great-grandchildren. Also dear to him were Lou's children: Linda (Larry) Greenwood, Richfield, UT; Jim (Debra) Hurst, La Verkin, UT; Kent (Elaine) Hurst, Columbus, TN; Cathy (Dennis) Cosby, Blanding, UT; Todd (Toni) Hurst, Blanding, UT; Joanna (Randy) Hall, Payson, UT, grand-children, and great-grandchildren. Eugene was preceded in death by his wife, Louise (Sessions) Porter; his daughter-in-law, Arlie (Alan); his parents, Hyrum and Lucy; and his siblings: Wilma, Fay, Carol, Barbara, Norwood, and Dewey.
