Solveig "Sally" Gunning, 88, of Bagley, MN died on Tuesday, May 17, 2011 at the Cornerstone Assisted Living in Bagley, MN.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 21, 2011 at the Faith Hill Assembly of God Church in Bagley, MN at 2:00 p.m. with the Pastor John Swanson officiating. A fellowship meal and visitation will be one hour prior to the service at 1:00 p.m.at the Church. Interment will be at the Elim Lutheran Cemetery in Clearbrook, MN. The Cease Family Funeral Home of Bagley assisted with the arrangements.

Solveig was born on September 20, 1922 in Hemne, Norway the daughter of Johan and Jona Kvande. Solveig immigrated to the United States from Norway when she was 3 years old in 1925 and became a United States citizen. They lived in New York for a while before moving to St. James, Minnesota and then settling in Bagley. She attended High School in Bagley graduating with a GED in 1970.

Sally and her mother were partners in several restaurants in Bagley , owning and operating Kvande's Café in Bagley. She married Earl Gunning on July 6, 1945 at Bagley. Solveig and Earl raised their family on a farm north of Clearbrook. She was a devoted mother and grandmother. She also worked at the Good Samaritan Center as an Activity Assistant.

Sally was a member of the Good Samaritan Auxilary and volunteered as the director of the Kitchen Band. She also volunteered driving for rehab people and at the Christian Book Store in Bagley. She was a member of the Elim Lutheran Church where she was a Sunday School Teacher, the director of Vacation Bible School and Release Time and the Assistant director of the Sunday School. She was also active in the Mission Friends. Currently, Sally was a member of the Faith Hill Assembly of God Church in Bagley, MN.

Sally loved to play her Omnichord and singing was a big part of her life.

She is survived by her daughters – Carolyn (Don) Rens and Patricia Thorssen Sons – Ronald Gunning and Steven Gunning Daughters-in-law – Lucille Mathison and Julie Sundquist Sisters-in-law –Betty Kvande, Doris Hallin, Arlyce Gunning and Viola Moen Cousin – Charles Bakke

13 grandchildren - Tara (Paul) Grosse, Danelle (Martin) Weintzweig, Anne (Darran) Miller, Carly (Adriano Fruzzetti) Bomstad, Chad (Holley) Thorssen, Colby (Amanda) Thorssen, Patrick Thorssen, Nicholas Gunning, Lindsey (Thomas) Lamwers, Andy Gunning, Travis (Tasha) Gunning, Jesse Olson and Mitchell Olson. 15 great grandchildren – Hannah Grosse, Jonah Kremer, Ezra Weintzweig, Rachel Weintzweig, Edward Miller, Harlow Miller, Kali Thorssen, Lani Thorssen, Kayden Thorssen, Amaris Lemke, Madison Hanson, Macie Hanson, Briana Gunning, Billy Gunning and Dani Gunning.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and her brothers and sisters Karl "Carl", Oskar "Oscar", Magnhild, Harold, Sverre "Severt" and Jenny "Jennie"; and two sons-in-law – Elliott Thorssen and Harlow Bomstad.
