US Congressman. He served in the Union Army during the Civil War as Captain and commander of Company C, 92nd Illinois Volunteer Infantry. He was mustered in on September 4, 1862, honorably discharged on June 21, 1865, and was brevetted Major, US Volunteers on March 13, 1865. He was elected as a Republican to represent Illinois's 5th Congressional District in the United States House of Representatives, serving from 1879 to his death in 1882.
