US Congressman. He attended Milton Academy and Rushford Academy, then moved to Rock County, Wisconsin, in May 1856. There, he engaged in the manufacture of lumber, was president of the Union Lumbering Company and of the Chippewa Falls and Western Railway Company. He was member of the Wisconsin State Assembly (1864, 1866-67, 1869, served as the 10th Lieutenant Governor of Wisconsin (1870-71) and delegate to the Republican National Convention in 1872. In 1877, he was elected as a Republican to the Forty-fifth, Forty-sixth and Forty-seventh Congresses, serving until 1883. Not a candidate for re-nomination, he was president of the Chippewa Spring Water Company until his death at age 80.
