Sgt. Drozd's Body Arrives Tomorrow

THE BODY of S/Sgt. Anatole M. Drozd, who was killed in action at Castelfiorentino, Italy in [Feb 1,] 1945, will arrive in Syracuse tomorrow afternoon.
Sgt Drozd was a veteran of 15 years Army service having served in China, Hawaii, Panama, and Trinidad and Trinidad before entering the European Theater. His last command was with the 894th Tank Destroyer Battalion, Company A.
He was awarded the Purple Heart and Presidential Citation.
A native of Syracuse, Sgt. Drozd is survived by his mother, Mrs. Frances Drozd and a sister, Mrs. Albert Scalzo.
Funeral services will be conducted at 9 A.M. Thursday from the John Giminski funeral home Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Friends may call tomorrow from 7 to 11 P.M

Killed in Italy Feb. 1

S/Sgt. Anatole M. Drozd, 33, veteran of 16 years in tbe Army, was killed In action In Italy Feb. 1, according to a War Department telegram received by bis mother, Mrs. Frances Drozd, of 901 South McBride Street.
Sgt. Drozd had served in China, Hawail, Panama. Trinidad and throughout the United States. He was was wounded Sept. 21, 1944, and had been awarded the Purple Heart.
Besides his mother he leaves a sister, Mrs. Albert Scalzo, of 901 South McBride Street, and two nephews, Albert J. and Dana Scalzo.

The 94th Antitank Battalion was redesignated the 894th Tank Destroyer Battalion on 15 December 1941. Committed to battle 20 February 1943 at Kasserine Pass in Tunisia. Supported capture of Bizerte. Landed in Italy in late October 1943, located in vicinity of Pignataro in the Migniano sector as of December. Transferred to Anzio beachhead on 25 January 1944, where battalion supported mainly British troops.
