William Fahr was the youngest child of John A. Fahr and Mary Elizabeth Clancy Fahr. He had an older sister, Marion Elizabeth, and brother, John Chester Fahr . They were raised in Whitestone, Queens, and Melville, Suffolk, Long Island.

He enlisted in the US Army Air Force on 8 Dec 1942. He served in the American Theater; the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater; the Balkans, Normandy, Air Offensive Europe, and Rome-Arno Campaigns. He was killed in action aboard a B-24 (Liberator) on June 16, 1944, in a flight over Bratislava, Czechoslovakia. He earned the rank of Techical Sergeant.
