Alexander William '"Bill" Leslie, 63, died March 4, 2011, at a medical facility in Anchorage, with his children, Alexandra W. Leslie, July Sarah Leslie and Darrin Nelson, by his side.

He was born May 14, 1947, in Leadville, Colo. His mother was Cherokee and his father a German coal miner. When he was a young boy, he was adopted by Sarah B. and Alexander W. Leslie from Oklahoma City. Bill came to Alaska in the '70s because he loved the outdoors and liked to hunt and fish. He enjoyed some of the best Alaska has to offer: hunting, fishing and just being outdoors. He was an auto body and paint person by trade, working in two different shops in Anchorage and winning best-in-show for one of his paint jobs. In Kodiak, he had his own shop, Bill's Autobody and Paint. Bill sport-fished in many of the state's lakes and rivers. He had a cabin cruiser out of Seward and later a commercial fishing boat, the White Bird, out of Kodiak. He hunted moose and deer in the state. Snowmachining and target-shooting were his favorite sports. He had many interests including gardening, smoking food, beer- and wine-making and loading for his many firearms. He moved back to Oklahoma to take care of his mother when she was sick. After Sarah died and her affairs were in order, he moved back to Alaska.
