1920 Census shows Frederick Schmidt 54 living with family at 515 Jefferson Ave, Saginaw, Saginaw, MI. With him are wife Mary 56, Son Frederick Jr (Fritz) 22, daughter Eva 20, Son Harold (Nig) 30 Harold's wife Rose Haas Schmidt 34, and their children Mark 5 and Gretchen 3.

Onset ----Date 8-9-21
On Sunday 07 Aug. 1921 went for a ride, had blow out, appeared very nervous + excited on way. Glad to get home.
Tuesday morning 11:00 o'clock, complained of severe headache. Put to bed. Could not sleep, restless. Supper 6:00 o'clock soft egg, toast. Seven o'clock vomited a little blood. Appeared feverish and chilly all night. Did not close eyes. Only had water, orange juice, and bread. Appeared hard to swallow. Was Drowsy, wanted stories read, then tried to rest but couldn't.
Thurs. 11:00 o'clock Swallowing harder - head seemed to drop a little - drowsy, no sleep.
Friday 12:00 o'clock - worse
Friday 5:00 P.M. - discharge from nose
Friday 10:00 P.M. - spinal puncture
Friday 11:00 P.M. - antorion
Friday 3:00 A.M. - choking started
Friday 5:00 A.M. - Died

Died of complications from Polio. Mark Died Friday afternoon at the family residence 515 South Jefferson Ave.
The funeral took place Saturday afternoon at 4:00 and was private. Rev E. A. Caldwell officiated.
