Eliza Pitcher Barnum was born September 2, 1834 at Rice, New York and died September 20, 1906 at Waupaca, Waupaca, Wisconsin. (Wisconsin Deaths). She was the daughter of William S. Pitcher and Jane Ackerman.

The Waupaca Republican, Friday, Sept. 28, 1906

Death entered the home of Mrs. Eliza Barnum in this city, Friday evening (sic) last and called her hence to join her companion and other loved ones gone before, but she left to mourn, a loving daughter, Mrs. Belle Chamberlain who has been, ever since the father was called, a little over sixteen years ago, an almost constant and devoted companion, also one son Fred G. Barnum of Milwaukee.

Mrs. Barnum's maiden name was Eliza Pitcher, a sister of Ira Pitcher of Farmington and the late George Pitcher who formerly lived in the home now occupied by the Kurtz family. Her father was William Pitcher who moved to this county with his wife and family from Rice, Cattauraugus County, N.Y., in 1855, at which place the deceased was born in 1834. She was united in marriage to Daniel C. Barnum at Crystal River, where he conducted a small woolen mill and wool carding business, in 1861, moving to the village now city of Waupaca in 1865. Two children, Fred G., and Belle as above noted, were born to them, who survive to mourn the loss of a most kind and loving Christian mother, who was also esteemed by all who knew her. Her life's example has been as near to the Golden Rule as possible, so when God called, she was ready. She had been a member of the Methodist church here from nearly it's early foundation in this county and a coincident worthy of mention Rev Perry Millar, a brother of the present pastor, Rev. Webster Millar who officiated Sunday at her funeral, sixteen years ago, on July 11, 1890, conducted the funeral service of the husband and father.

Interment was in the family lot at Lake View (sic) cemetery. (She was buried in Lakeside Memorial Park, Waupaca.)
