Pioneer Aircraft Industrialist. Born Marcel Bloch in Paris, France, he was a technological engineer with a precocious interest in aviation. After World War II, he pioneered the French Air Force’s first jet aircraft, the MD-450 Ouragan, in 1949. He later took steps to Frances’s aeronautical industry export market by selling planes in India and Israel. As founder of the Dassault-Breguet Compnay, his name came to be known around the world for outstanding jet-powered aircraft, through the 1950s and 1960s. Dassault’s aircraft also held much interest for civil aircraft commercial planes in Europe, America, China, Israel and Arab nations. Besides his work in aviation, newspapers and politics, he was into architecture, cinema, banking and the stock market. For his services to his country, he was awarded France’s highest honor, the Legion of Honor’s Grand Cross. He died at age 94 in Neuilly-sur-Seine, France.
