Matthew Brewster married Sarah Tuthill during 1789 at Blooming Grove, Orange County, New York.
He "had the music" as people said on the frontier, referring to a person of singular ability and talent who had been given no formal training. Matthew owned two very fine violins at the time of his death, according to the research of his great grandson, Ralph J. Buck. After his death, neighbors and friends in the Red Creek area greatly missed his "fiddle playing" at barn dances, birthday parties and wedding celebrations.
