Thamer Zickefoose

Thamer D. Zickefoose, 77, of Route 4, Box 383, Buckhannon, died at 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 18, 2003, at his home in the company of his family.

He was born Jan. 9, 1929, in Hemlock, the son of the late Emery Zickefoose and Sophia Hoover Zickefoose.

Surviving are one son, Craig Zickefoose and wife, Geraldine, of Horner; one daughter, Judy Lowe, of Buckhannon; two sisters, Shelbia Jean Carpenter and Verine Leigh, both of Tallmansville; one brother, Camden Zickefoose of Hemlock; three granddaughters, Nicole Lowe and Karla Lowe, both of Buckhannon, and Shanna Lantz of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; one great-granddaughter, Kayla Gaylor of Buckhannon; and one great-grandson, Korey Gaynor of Buckhannon.

Mr. Zickefoose worked as a mechanic for the Department of Highways and was a Methodist by faith.

He was raised on a large farm in Hemlock. He spent many years in his early life working in the timber industry, cutting trees with crosscut saws and later using power equipment.

He then spent the later part of his working career with the West Virginia Department of Highways working as a mechanic. Mr. Zickefoose retired in 1988.

He was an avid outdoorsman and spent a large amount of his time providing assistance and being extremely helpful to his immediate family and spoiling his grandchildren.

His family is thankful for having him for so many years. He will be sorely missed.

Friends will be received from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. He will lie in state at Mt. Olive United Methodist Church on Sunday from 1:30 p.m. until 2 p.m., the funeral hour. Interment will follow in the Mt. Olive Church Cemetery.
