BRIDGEWATER – Timar Arnold “Tim” Atkins, 82, of Rt. 1, Bridgewater died Friday at Rockingham Memorial Hospital, where he had been a patient 33 days.

He was born Feb. 19, 1900, in Bridgewater and was a son of the late Worth and Hattie Calhoun Atkins.

Mr. Atkins had worked at the Ethan Allen Furniture plant in Bridgewater 46 years and he played baseball in the Old Bridgewater County League.

He had been married twice. In 1924, he married the former Mildred Marshall, who died in 1936. On Oct 22, 1938, he married the former Doris Caricofe, who survives.

Also surviving are three daughters, Mildred Payne and Twyla Heatwole, both of Harrisonburg, and Jackie Botkin of Bridgewater; four sons, Worth Woodward and Wayne Atkins, both of Bridgewater, Melvin Atkins of Orlando, Fla., and Carlos Atkins of Dayton; a sister, Gladys Pero of Bridgewater, 24 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday at the McMullen Funeral Home Chapel in Bridgewater by De. Wayne Judd. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Cemetery.

The body is at the funeral home, where the family will receive friends 7-8 p.m. Sunday. Friends also may visit Mrs. Atkins at the home of James Botkin in Bridgewater.
