Mariam L. Troxell, 91, of Brookline Manor, formerly of Springfield, VA and Myrtle Beach, SC, died at 9 a.m. Sunday, July 17, 2005 at the Manor.
Born Oct. 16, 1913 in Tyrone, Blair County, she was a daughter of the late Banks S. and Verna (Kline) Troxell.
She is survived by two sisters, Janet T. Yoder of RR1 McAlisterville and Doris Kramer of Myrtle Beach, SC and a number of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Florence Foltz and a brother, Ronald B. Troxell.
She was a 1931 graduate of Lewistown High School and a 1934 graduate of Lewistown School of Nursing She served as a nurse in the United States Air Force, beginning her career on May 1, 1943 and retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel on September 30, 1968. During World War II and the Korean Conflict she was a flight nurse in an Air Evacuation unit. Her name is engraved on the WW II Women's Veterans Memorial in Washington D.C. and she was a member of the Air Force Flight Nurse Association. She enjoyed traveling, being at the beach, and taking care of her cats.
There will be a graveside memorial service and interment at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Juniata Memorial Park, Lewistown with Rev. Graham Fowler officiating. There will be no viewing.
The family will provide all funeral flowers and requests that memorial contributions be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
