Gale was the son of James Cleveland "Cleve" West and Tracy Louise Scott West. Gale's parents were married on February 11, 1919 in Washington County, Ohio. Gale's Mother, Tracey (or a variation of that name), unfortunately died on January 29, 1938 in Washington County, Ohio when Gale was a young child.

Gale's Father, most commonly known as "Cleve", remarried on February 20, 1943. His second Wife was Katie Rinard, Daughter of William M. Rinard and Mary Ann Smith.

Gale married Doris Thomas, Daughter of Herman Thomas and Lucy Ewing on May 1, 1948. Gale and Doris had two Sons, that is:

1. Gale Bradford West, who was born on March 2, 1949; and,

2. Greg West.

Gale, during his married life, was a self employed farmer via the Missouri Dept of Agriculture.
