Joseph Figard, a lifelong resident of Broad Top township, Bedford county, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Wm. Wright, June 8, 1916, aged 82 years 5 months and 23 days. After many years of ill health, his home was destroyed by fire several years ago. After that time he lived with some of his children until a few weeks ago, when his condition became worse, he requiring constant attention, and others interfered and had him sent to the Bedford county house assuring them he would have good treatment and care which he failed to get. On Sunday before his death, his children went to see him and found him in a critical and uncared for condition. He was brought home at once, but did not recover, and on Thursday he departed this world to join other loved ones.
His wife ( Eliza Thomas Figard) preceded him to the grave about sixteen years ago; also, six children. "Uncle Joe", as he was best know, and his violin, will be missed in this community by a host of friends and relatives. He was the father of 12 children, had 56 grandchildren and 40 great-grandchildren. The following children are living: Mrs Mary E. Neary, of Saxton, Mrs Martha E. Shade of Carlisle; Mrs Jemima Williams, Mrs Annie Walters, Mill Lillie R. Wright, and James Lewis Figard, of Six Mile Run.
Predeceased are Janet and Ellen.
Funeral services were held in Round Knob church conducted by Rev. James Gilbert. Six of his grandsons were pallbearers. Internment in Evans Cemetery
