Felix A. Sarubbi, 94,
former city councilman
Felix A. Sarubbi, 94, a former Yonkers city councilman and a city resident for the last 85 years, died Saturday at St. John's Riverside Hospital, Yonkers, after a short illness. Born Nov. 30, 1885 in Stigliano, Italy, Mr. Sarubbi came to the United States as a child. He graduated from St Mary's and St. Joseph's parochial schools and studied at Cathedral College. He lived in the 7th Ward, and in 1929 was a Republican candidate in that ward.
Mr. Sarubbi was a partner with his brother in the contracting business, and partner with his sister in a foreign exchange steamship agency and real estate business. He was also employed for 20 years as a salesman for Con Edison, and was the family chauffeur for the Stillwell family and drove Gen. Joseph Stillwell to West Point.
Mr. Sarubbi was a member of the Yonkers City Council in 1927 and was instrumental in public building improvements such as the health center on Nepperhan Avenue.
In addition to being a well-known baseball player himself, he managed the championship Yonkers Elks baseball team in 1939. He was a member of the Italian-American Civic League, the Knights of Columbus and St. Anthony's Club.
He is survived by his wife, the former Lucille Santi, whom he married in Yonkers in 1912; a son, Joseph F., a dentist, of Somers; a sister, Lucille Petrocelli of Queens; one grandchild and two great-grandchildren.
