He was the son of Russell and Elizabeth (Hicks) Wheeler, born at Royalston, MA. Probably after the death of Russell, Elizabeth joined her sons Aaron and Mason in the growing town of Calais. (it is possible they rode in the same wagon) Aaron and Clarissa are mentioned on the side of the stone for Aaron, Jr and his wife.
