James Ellis Tolle was born near Trenton, Mo., August 10, 1856. When a young man he moved to Clay county, Nebraska, and later to Kearney, Nebraska. About two years ago he went to Montana for his health but remained there a few months, soon returning to western Nebraska where he has been living the large part of the past two years. For a number of years he has been troubled with leakage of the heart, and the past year has been fighting a cancer on the tongue. He passed away last Monday night at the home of his daughter, Mrs Poffenbarger in this city, aged 63 years, one month and five days
His departure is mourned by his wife, three brothers and three sisters, and eight children: Rosencrans Tolle, Red Lodge, Montana; Bert Tolle, Clay Center, Nebraska; Mrs Della Poffenbarger, Bayard, Nebraska; Mrs Dora Johnson, Red Lodge, Montana; Earl and Ward Tolle of Oshkosh, Nebraska, and Danny and Ellis, both living with their sister, Mrs Poffenbarger in Bayard.
Mr Tolle joined the Adventist church at Fairfield, Nebraska, about 30 years ago, where he has since retained him membership.
The funeral was conducted by Rev. E.M. Kendall at 3 o'clock Wednesday afternoon and the remains interred in the Bayard cemetery.
