Native of Missouri Suddenly Died at Home on East Anthony Street
J.E. (Ellison) Crawley, 58 years and 10 days old, passed away at his late home on East Anthony Street at 10:30 o'clock Monday night. The deceased had worked all day and until 9 o'clock Monday night when he came home, ate a hearty supper and went to bed. He was semmingly in good health, remarking that he was tired. He laughed and joked, as was his usual manner with members of his family until bed time.
About 10:30, his wife heard him groan and upon turning on the light found life almost extinct. By the time a physician arrived, life had left the body of this well-known and esteemed McKinney citizen.
Heart trouble is thought to be the cause of his sudden demise.
James Ellison Crawley was born in Malden, Missouri. He spent his boyhood and young manhood in that state, marrying there before coming to Texas. He and his family first settled at Mesquite (Collin County) where he farmed a number of years. He had lived in McKinney for the past seven years preceding his passing.
His wife's maden name was Miss Sarah Dean. He early joined the Methodist church and held membership with that denomination at Princeton at the time of his death. He was an active member of the Odd Fellows and was also a member of the Masonic fraternity. The Odd Fellows Lodge of this city will have charge of the funeral rites over his body at the funeral services.
Besides his grief stricken wife, who mourns the passing of her companion through life, he is survived by the following children: Yewel Crawley, Malakoff, Texas; Mrs. Fannie Toombs, Climax; Cecil, Elmer and Arthur Crawley, all of McKinney; Mrs. Jess (Letha) Recer of Climax; Mrs. Grace Dickson of McKinney and one daughter, Mildred, at home.
Besides his wife and children, the deceased also leaves three brothers to mourn his passing. W.R. and T.O. Crawley of Phoenix, Arizona, and Louis Crawley of Malden, Missouri. The deceased had no sisters.
One neice and two nephews also mourn the passing of their uncle as follows: Mrs. J.H. Bibble of McKinney, J.D. Crawley of Phoenix, Arizona, and John L. Crawley, Fort Benning, Georgia.
Funeral services had not been arranged at press hour, pending news from his brothers at Phoenix, Arizona. Funeral services, however, will not be held before tomorrow, Wednesday afternoon. Interment will be made in the Huston cemetery, three miles northwest of Farmersville, conducted by Rev. W.E. Kerby, well-known Methodist pastor of near Greenville, Texas.
The deceased, besides his many relatives leaves a number of friends and acquaintances who deeply regret to hear of his sudden demise. He was a man who because of his convictions and exemplary life, gained a wide circle of friends who ever remained steadfast and loyal to the deceased.
The memory of this well known McKinney citizen will linger long in the minds of his relatives, friends and acquaintances.
