Dennie A. Dellinger, 187 Kilgore avenue, a widely acquainted retired shoe merchant, died yesterday after an extended illness. His body was taken to the Meeks mortuary where friends may call from 4 t 6 o'clock this afternoon. Funeral services will be conducted at the mortuary at 4:30 o'clock Saturday afternoon and burial will be made in Elm Ridge Cemetery.
Mr. Dellinger is survived by his wife, Alta M.; a daughter, Charlotte; a sister, Mrs. S.B. Hepner of Woodstock, Va.; a brother, Charles of Yakima, Wash.; three half-sisters and two half-brothers.
He was a native of Paxton, Ill., and had resided in Delaware County and Muncie fifty years. He retired from the shoe business 15 years ago, his last store being in his building at 320 South Mulberry street. He was the first president of the Parent-Teacher Association at Jefferson school and was active in parent-teacher work for many years.
He was a member of the Jackson Street Christian Church, the United Commercial Travelers and the Travelers Protective Association. He was active politically over a period of many years as a member of the Republican party.
