James J. Lottes, age 80, of Lake Mills, died suddenly on the morning of of Saturday, October 9, 2010, on his way to volunteer duties at St. Vincent de Paul. He was born December 8, 1929, in Madison, son of the late George and Elizabeth Farrell Lottes. He was a graduate of Holy Redeemer Grade School, Madison East High School and UW-Madison. Jim served his country in the U.S. Navy. Jim married Joanne DuPuis of Baraboo on June 25, 1955, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Baraboo. In 1957, he began his career as an electrical engineer at the Bendix Corp. in Mishawaka, Ind. He moved his family to Lake Mills in 1964, for employment with Hamlin, Inc. at the production facilities in Lake Mills and Aqua Prieta, Mexico. After his retirement from Hamlin, he worked at Prospect Elementary School and Glacial Drumlin Bike Trail. He was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus Council No. 6690 and the American Legion Post No. 67. He performed in several productions of te Lake Mills Little Theater, was a Boy Scout leader for Troop 148, a charter EMT for the Lake Mills EMS, an avid gardener, and was a devoted, daily volunteer at the St. Vincent de Paul Thrift Store. He was deeply loved by and devoted to his wife, Joanne; three children, Kathryn (John) Wittwer of Lake Mills, David (Ann) Lottes of Waukesha, John Lottes of Milwaukee; five grandchildren, Adria and Eric Wittwer, Sarah, Maggie and Joseph Lottes; one sister, Winifred (Philip) Lacy of Fitchburg; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Preceding him in death were two grandchildren, Emma and Alex Lottes. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, October 15, 2010, at 11 a.m. at ST. FRANCIS XAVIER CATHOLIC CHURCH with Father Robert Hughes as celebrant. Burial will be at a later date in the Rock Lake Cemetery, Lake Mills. Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday at the CLAUSSEN FUNERAL HOME with the Prayer of the Rosary at 7:30 p.m. and then on Friday at 10 a.m. at the church until the time of service. Memorials may be made to St. Vincent de Paul, St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, or the Lake Mills EMS. The family gratefully acknowledges and thanks the many neighbors, friends, and St. Vincent de Paul staff and volunteers for their untold acts of kindness, unselfish charity and assistance, and most notably their loving friendship with Jim.
