James W. 'Jim' Stell, 90, former State Representative from Lamar County, and the first boy ever graduated from Paris High School, died here Friday. He was the only boy among the five graduates who received Paris High School's first diplomas in 1889.

Mr. Stell, who lived at 1608 E. Hearon St., died about 11:50 p.m. at Lamar Medical Center, where he had been a patient since last Sunday.

The funeral will be conducted Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. at Fry & Gibbs Chapel here and burial made in Shady Grove Cemetery, with Masonic committal rites by Paris Lodge #27, AF & AM.

Jim was born 12 Ma 1870, on the Lamar County farm, southeast of Paris, where he lived most of his life. He was the son of John T.H. Stell, a Confederate Veteran, and the former Miss Virginia Emily Helm. He married Miss Janie Hightower, who died December 29, 1937.

James Stell served three consecutive terms as a State Representative to the Legislature from Lamar County, then the 38th District, now in the 10th. He was a member of the Masonic Knights of Pythias and Odd Fellows Lodge.

Survivors include his children, Mrs. Pocahontas 'Pokey' Stell Tompkins (Calvin) Cantrell of Paris, Mrs. Daisy Stell (Raymond) Calhoun of Yuma, AZ, Mrs. Helen (J.M. 'Buster') Yoakum of Dallas, James Albert Stell of Port Arthur, Lt. Col. Robert E.L. Stell, US AIR FORCE, Washington, D.C., Andrew Jackson 'Jack' Stell of Paris, Mrs. Evelyn Virginia (William E.) Harris of Dallas, and George W. 'Buster' Stell of Fort Worth; 50 other descendants; sister, Mrs. Susie Hightower of Dallas; brother, John Robert 'Bob' Stell of Paris.

The services await the arrival of Mr. Stell's son, James Albert Stell, from Port Arthur, who is aboard a merchant ship due to dock there today.
