Bonita "Bonnie" Louise (Houston) Trisler
March 14, 1919 - June 12, 2011

Bonita Louise "Bonnie" Trisler, age 92, of Bloomington, died Sunday at I.U. Health, Bloomington Hospital.

Born March 14, 1919 in Bloomington, she was the daughter of Chandos Houston and Pearlie Mae (Bales) Houston Naugle. She was a homemaker and had worked many years ago for Sarkes Tarzian, R.C.A. and Indiana University.

She was a long-time and faithful member of McDoel Baptist Church. She enjoyed growing and viewing flowers. She was an avid reader and used to write little stories for her children when they were younger. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchild.

She is survived by her loving husband of 71 years, H. Alvin Trisler, whom she married on September 5, 1939; two daughters, Judith Kaye Trisler, of Bedford and Constance Shotts, of Charlotte, North Carolina; one son and daughter-in-law, David and Janet Trisler, of Anderson, Indiana; two grandchildren, Chantelle Petchul, and her husband, Martin and Alex Trisler and one great-grandchild, Shannan Petchul.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Hugo Houston.

The funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 A.M. at Deremiah-Frye Mortuary, Greene and Harrell Chapel with Rev. Harold Carter officiating. Burial will follow in Valhalla Memory Gardens in Bloomington. Friends may visit the family on Wednesday from 10:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M.

Her Houston ancestors had lived for many years in Monroe County, Indiana. Her grandfather was Joseph Washington Houston (28 Oct 1854-05 Feb 1915) who married his second wife, Mary E. Bowman Cowden (Nov. 1854-08 Aug 1910) on 14 Apr 1888 in Monroe County, Indiana. Bonita's great grandfather, Lewis W. Houston (23 May 1830-05 Oct 1862) died of wounds received at Antietam. His wife was Mary Matilda Harris (26 Jul 1836-1904). Lewis Houston's parents were Joseph W. Houston (06 Jun 1806-21 Dec. 1871) and Lucinda Putnam Houston (abt. 1810-aft 1880); they were married in Monroe County, Indiana, on 07 Mar 1827. James Madison Houston (abt. 1780-bet. Jun-Oct. 1839) and his first wife Sarah (Sally) Elsie Kendrick Houston (abt. 1785-bet. Jul 1835-Jul 1836), parents of Joseph W., were the first of Bonita's family to settle in Monroe County, having come from Bourbon County, Kentucky. James Madison Houston's parents were Purnell Houston (01 Feb 1755-08 Mar 1835) and Mary (Polly) Cary Tomlinson Houston (07 May 1759-31 Jan 1830). Purnell Houston was a Revolutionary War soldier, born in Somerset County, Maryland, and settled in Monongalia County, [West] Virginia after the War. Purnell Houston's parents were Robert H. Houston (abt. 1730-bet. 23 Jan-25 Feb. 1788) and Mary Purnell Houston (abt. 1732-abt. 1756). Robert H. Houston's father was John Houston (02 Feb 1667-abt. 1739) and his parents, Robert R. Houston (abt. 1633-bet. 25 Apr 1693-20 Jan 1694) and Grace Benson Houston were the immigrant ancestors who came to America from Scotland.
