ASHBURN, PHILIP SCOTT - age 71, of Oak Ridge, died Wednesday, June 15, 2011 at his home.

He was born February 8, 1940 in Detroit, Michigan and was the son of the late Hollis and Edith Ashburn. He served with the US Air Force from 1960 through 1964. Mr. Ashburn retired January 1, 2002 from BWXT where he was an engineer at the Y-12 plant for 34 years. He enjoyed gardening and electronics, but his passion was spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Mary Frances Paul Ashburn; 2 sons; 2 sisters; 2 grandchildren; niece; 2 nephews; local aunt, and numerous in-laws in Florida.

The family will receive friends Friday, June 17, 2011 from 12 - 2 p.m. at Weatherford Mortuary. The funeral will begin at 2 p.m. with Rev. Chris Busby officiating. The interment will follow at Oak Ridge Memorial Park.

The family would like to express their gratitude and appreciation to Dr. John Foust and the staff of Thompson Oncology Group and the staff of the 4th Floor Oncology Dept. at Methodist Medical Center for their excellent care and compassion.
