Professional Football Player. For seven seasons (1955 to 1956, 1958 to 1962), he played at the right defensive-halfback and right-safety positions in the National and American Football Leagues with the Detroit Lions, Philadelphia Eagles, New York Giants and New York Titans. Born Leon Francis Riley, he was raised in Schenectady, New York where he attended St. Aloysius High School and St. Bonaventure University before transferring to the University of Detroit Mercy, where he played collegiate football. Following service with the US Army, Riley was selected by the Lions during the 4th round of the 1955 NFL Draft. Riley served as an effective special teams player during the course of his career, as he recorded 48 punt-returns for 249 yards and 32 kick-returns for 764 yards in 83 games. He most productive year defensively was in 1962, when he led the AFL with 11 interceptions while with the Titans. He amassed 23 career interceptions for 286 yards. After his football career, he worked as an executive.
