U.S. Congressman. He graduated from the University of Notre Dame Indiana, in June 1893, was admitted to the bar and commenced the practice of law in Defiance, Ohio. He was Defiance Justice of the Peace, (1893-95) and prosecuting attorney of Defiance County, (1895-1903). In 1907, he was elected as a Democrat to the Sixtieth and to the next three succeeding Congresses, serving until 1915. After his final term, he was appointed associate judge of the Ohio Court of Appeals and served until his resignation in 1916. He was a delegate to the Democratic National Conventions of (1920, 24) and engaged in the practiced law until his death at age 71.
